PROJECT SNAPSHOTS

A look at some of the work south Louisiana companies have done in other markets.

EXCEL GROUP in Savannah, Georgia

Baton Rouge-based EXCEL performed upgrades of the Kinder Morgan Elba Island Liquefaction Project, near Savannah, Georgia. The company performed piping installation, structural steel installation, miscellaneous pipe support structural steel installation, equipment setting, underground piping, concrete foundation installation and grout placement, while subcontracting 27% of the $129.3 million project. The work began in October 2017, and EXCEL’s portion was completed using 1,871,000 manhours without lost time over the course of 12 months, EXCEL says.

TRIAD ELECTRIC & CONTROLS in McPherson, Kansas

In 2012, Baton Rouge’s TRIAD Electric & Controls (part of The Newtron Group) was awarded a $17.9 million contract, later increased to $30.4 million, to perform the electrical and instrumentation work for the CHS coker replacement project in McPherson, Kansas. The project, started in April 2013 and completed in December 2015, helped the unit increase production from 85,000 to 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day, while also allowing the refinery to process heavier Canadian crudes. The project earned commendations from CHS and Turner Industries (the general contractor) and was completed with no recordable injuries, Newtron says.
