Louisiana-based Harvey Gulf plans to retrofit four of its LNG-fueled Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) with Wärtsilä’s advanced Energy Storage System (ESS). The company placed the ESS order in October, reports World Oil.

When the upgrade project is completed, the vessels will be capable of “tri-fuel” operation. As such, the boats will be capable of “closed bus Dynamic Positioning” operation, running only one engine augmented by the Wärtsilä system. When stationary in the field or port, the boats will be able to operate on battery power only, thereby reducing both fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

The retrofitting project will commence in 2021 and will be completed in early 2022. World Oil has the full story.
