ExxonMobil announced this week that it is now transporting and storing captured CO2 from its New Generation Gas Gathering (NG3) facility in Gillis, north of Lake Charles. Natural gas from east Texas and Louisiana is gathered through the NG3 gathering system for treatment, where up to 1.2 million metric tons per year (MTA) of CO2 will be removed from the natural gas stream before being re-delivered to Gulf Coast markets (including LNG facilities).
The startup marks ExxonMobil’s second active commercial CCS operation in Louisiana. In July, the company began transporting and storing CO2 from CF Industries’ Donaldsonville Complex, enabling the production of low-carbon ammonia. Read more.
