Louisiana leads U.S. construction job losses on heels of oil, gas decline


Reuters reports that Louisiana endured the steepest one-year construction employment decline of any state in the U.S. in 2021 with a 15% contraction. That was largely due to a 4 percent decrease in U.S. construction investment in oil, gas fields and pipelines in January-November 2021 from a year earlier.

The data was shared by Associated General Contractors of America in a report that also discussed construction and labor trends for 2022.

As many as 18 states and the District of Columbia posted an increase in construction employment, but 32 others didn’t post any growth or had declines, according to the January report. Read the entire story.
