Alliance Safety Council
Alliance Safety Council, Baton Rouge

Sponsored by Alliance Safety Council

In the 61 years since Alliance Safety Council began, the organization has grown into a premier provider of training and technology solutions that develop and elevate workforces, ensuring companies remain safe and competitive. The organization works with companies from a wide array of industries, including construction, petrochemical, pulp and paper, power, manufacturing and transportation.

As such, Alliance helps build the standard of training and safety in the industry. Alliance achieves this aim by streamlining its products and services and building lasting relationships with its members and customers based on a foundation of expertise. And while the tools, techniques and processes used in 2019 may differ from those of 1958,
Alliance’s focus on, passion for and dedication to improving safety has remained constant.

Today, Alliance trains nearly 300,000 workers each year, has impacted over 20,000 companies and is one of the largest safety councils in the U.S.

The organization has developed several signature programs, such as Certified Occupational Safety Specialist® (COSS), Certificate for Occupational Safety Managers™ (COSM) and Safe Supervisor™, as well as the PowerSafe® system.

Alliance also provides OSHA-authorized training through the Mid-South OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC), a consortium between Alliance and LSU’s College of Engineering. It is one of only 26 OTIECs in the U.S. and the only center located in Louisiana.

The Alliance recently has introduced two new dynamic resources, the Emerging Technologies Center (ETC) and Design Thinking services, to further its safety and workforce development mission.

In June, Alliance opened its ETC at 11030 Industriplex Blvd. in Baton Rouge, a 26,400-square-foot facility dedicated to advancing the future of learning technology and training process innovation for business and industry. Within that space, there is an area dedicated to Alliance’s new Design Thinking team, which offers workshops to companies in need of a solution-based approach to solving complex problems.

Design Thinking is a strategic, human-centered process for ideation and creation that encourages quickly moving from an idea to a solution that can be tested and continually improved on.

“This new facility will provide an environment conducive to Design Thinking and also innovative content development and delivery technologies that will transform the adult learning experience. We are here to support our members and our training partners, so they can in turn be responsive to the changing needs of their workforce,” said Alliance Safety Council President and CEO Kathy Trahan.

The Design Thinking lab is helmed by Alliance Innovation Consultant and Design Thinking Specialist Johnny Saye, who has helped world-renowned brands such as IBM successfully launch new technology services.
