The Port of South Louisiana on Thursday announced that Julia Fisher-Cormier has been selected as its new executive director.
The announcement follows a national search and a unanimous vote of approval by the port’s board of commissioners.
Fisher-Cormier most recently served as deputy secretary of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. Before joining DOTD, she served as the Port of South Louisiana’s chief commercial officer. Her work has spanned economic development, infrastructure policy, intermodal logistics and stakeholder engagement across public and private sectors.
“As a lifelong resident of the River Parishes, returning to the Port of South Louisiana as its leader is both an honor and a responsibility that I embrace,” a statement from Fisher-Cormier reads.
Fisher-Cormier replaces Paul Matthews, who resigned in August after three years at the helm. Matthews, the port’s first Black chief executive, is credited with reversing years of declining cargo volumes.
Headquartered in Reserve, the Port of South Louisiana extends 54 miles along the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
