Port of Lake Charles cracks nation’s Top 10 for cargo

The Lake Charles Harbor District is now a Top 10 port in the U.S. for cargo, reports KPLC News.

“They rank ports based on overall tonnage,” says Ricky Self, executive director of the Port of Lake Charles. “We reported a 34 percent increase in domestic tonnage and a 32 percent increase in foreign tonnage with an overall average of 33 percent.”

Marine cargo activity along the Calcasieu Ship Channel has a $39 billion total economic value to the U.S. economy, $29.9 billion of which stays in Louisiana, according to a 2021 economic study. Read more.
