A furnace goes down. A reformer needs emergency retubing. A turnaround window that took a year to plan suddenly shrinks by several days. In moments like these, the difference between a plant getting back online as scheduled and one facing a delayed startup can come down to one thing: whether the welding crews on site can handle the work in front of them, at the level of precision the job demands, without slowing anyone else down.

Turner Industries built its Specialized Welding Services (SWS) group more than 25 years ago around that pressure point. Plants facing a shutdown, turnaround, or outage did not just need welders. They needed a strategic partner who could plan the work, staff it correctly, and execute code-critical welding under a deadline that did not move.

Built for the work that cannot wait

SWS specializes in alloy welding, ASME code welding, furnace and boiler tube welding, FCC and coker modifications, ammonia and hydrogen reformer furnace tubing, ethylene heaters, ASME code-compliant pressure vessel fabrication, and piping revamps and upgrades. In 2025, SWS logged more than 3.4 million work hours, with crews numbering over 2,000 craft professionals working simultaneously across the U.S.

One team, fewer handoffs

Specialized Welding Services is one piece of Turner’s Specialty Services Division, and that is what makes a turnkey turnaround possible. A turnaround is rarely only welding. When the scope also calls for rope access, industrial cleaning, NDE and inspection, environmental and civil work, or E&I, SSD is already there with the group that handles it. The client reaches every capability through the same division rather than stacking up separate vendors, and one team owns the outcome from start to finish.

From furnace recovery work at major Gulf Coast refineries to turnaround support across multiple sites for the same client, SWS has built its reputation project by project, one successful event at a time.
