It’s been a big year for economic development in Louisiana, and the Capital Region is no exception. In case you need a refresher, these are the largest project announcements the Baton Rouge metro saw in 2025, ranked by price tag:
Hut 8’s data center: $10B | 75 jobs | West Feliciana Parish
Early this year, media reports surfaced indicating that Hut 8, the Miami-based energy infrastructure firm, was planning something big near St. Francisville: a sprawling, multibillion-dollar data center. The news followed up on the announcement that Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, was planning to build its own $10 billion data center in Richland Parish.
Even as state officials refused to comment on Hut 8’s plan, the project moved forward, with the firm breaking ground on the data center in August.
Then, just this month, Hut 8 secured a massive partnership backed by global juggernauts like Google and J.P. Morgan, a deal that thrust the West Feliciana data center into the national spotlight. On the heels of that announcement, state officials finally acknowledged the project, with Gov. Jeff Landry lauding Hut 8’s investment as an affirmation of Louisiana’s ability to “compete and win on a global stage.”
Hyundai’s steel plant: $5.8B | 1,400 jobs | Ascension Parish
In a March news conference at the White House, Landry joined President Donald Trump to announce that South Korean automaker Hyundai was planning to build an enormous steel plant in Ascension Parish’s RiverPlex MegaPark.
Trump framed the project, part of Hyundai’s move to boost production on American soil in an effort to avoid the president’s tariffs, as a “clear demonstration that tariffs strongly work.”
In September, despite global fallout from an immigration raid on Hyundai’s Georgia facility, Landry assured members of the media that the project was still on track, saying he doesn’t expect anyone will be working on the Louisiana plant illegally.
CF Industries’ low-carbon ammonia facility: $4B | 103 jobs | Ascension Parish
CF Industries in April announced that it was planning to build the world’s largest low-carbon ammonia facility in Ascension Parish, also in the RiverPlex MegaPark.
The project is a joint venture with JERA Co., Japan’s largest energy company, and Mitsui & Co., a global investment company.
AtmosClear’s carbon capture facility: $800M | 75 jobs | West Baton Rouge Parish
Also in April, the Port of Greater Baton Rouge landed the world’s largest permanent carbon removal project to date.
AtmosClear is developing a carbon capture facility at the port to support tech giant Microsoft’s decarbonization goals. AtmosClear BR LLC, a portfolio company of the global energy infrastructure firm Fidelis, signed a contract with Microsoft for 6.75 million metric tons of carbon removal over 15 years.
Linde’s air separation unit: $400M | 15 jobs | Ascension Parish
In June, Linde, the global industrial gases and engineering company, announced it was planning to build an air separation unit, or ASU, in Ascension Parish—this, too, in the RiverPlex MegaPark.
The new unit will supply oxygen and nitrogen to CF Industries’ aforementioned low-carbon ammonia facility.
