The Hyundai Steel and Posco joint venture has selected Danieli as technology partner for its proposed Ascension Parish steel facility, Steel Orbis reports. The Italy-based Danieli will supply electric arc furnaces, slab casters, reheating furnaces and other steelmaking equipment designed to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact, according to industry reports.
The proposed plant will focus on producing high-quality automotive steel for the North American market and is expected to feature advanced low-emissions technology throughout the operation. The facility will also include a 2.5 million-metric-ton direct reduction plant capable of producing both hot and cold direct reduced iron.
Company officials say the operation is being designed with future hydrogen use and carbon capture technology in mind, aligning the project with broader industrial decarbonization goals.
The investment further strengthens Louisiana’s position as a growing destination for advanced manufacturing, energy-intensive industry and next-generation steel production.
