CITGO Petroleum Corp. has announced a $310 million investment to upgrade its Lake Charles refinery, reports Energy News. Dubbed the Depentanizer Project, the initiative aims to strengthen the long-term competitiveness of one of the largest and most complex refining sites in the U.S.
The project involves adding new facilities and equipment designed to improve the site’s naphtha upgrading capabilities. The goal is to convert lower-value streams into higher-value gasoline blend components. Once completed, it is expected to increase refinery flexibility and strengthen CITGO’s ability to meet U.S. demand for transportation fuels, according to the company.
