Shell restarts hydrocracker in Norco

(The Associated Press)

Shell began restarting the second stage of the hydrocracker at its Norco refinery, Reuters reports.

Citing sources familiar with plant operations, the news service reported the second stage of the 40,000-bpd hydrocracker was taken out of production on June 8 because of a malfunction. The facility produces 227,400 barrels per day.

Hydrocrackers break down feedstocks, usually, gas oil to make diesel and other motor fuels. The unit’s first stage continued to operate throughout the incident.
