At the Louisiana Energy Security Summit in New Orleans, U.S. Department of Energy Assistant Secretary Kyle Haustveit said the Trump administration will pursue “unprecedented” energy production to meet surging demand from AI data centers and U.S. manufacturing, The Center Square writes.

Speaking by video amid the federal shutdown, Haustveit outlined a $5 billion research portfolio spanning coal, oil, gas and critical minerals, emphasizing “24/7 reliable” power as essential to reindustrializing America.

He says the DOE is identifying 16 national lab sites for AI data centers and streamlining nuclear permitting to accelerate deployment of next-generation reactors. The administration, he added, plans to “unleash” coal, natural gas, nuclear and LNG exports, including Plaquemines LNG in Louisiana, to secure energy dominance and grid reliability.

Haustveit contrasted the administration’s strategy with what he called prior “anti-energy policies,” saying reforms and emergency orders have already saved consumers $4.7 million and strengthened grid resilience.
