Louisiana-based construction contractors snagged top honors, accounting for four out of the top five spots on the Associated Builders and Contractors’ annual Top Performers list.

Turner Industries Group, a repeat winner, headed the list of top performers by work hours, with Performance Contractors coming in third, Brown & Root Industrial Services placing fourth and MMR Constructors placing fifth. BL Harbert International in Birmingham, Alabama, finished second.

Turner received the top general contractor distinction, while MMR Constructors was named the top trade and top electrical contractor. Turner was also named the top contractor for the industrial market sector.

Eight Baton Rouge–based firms ranked among the top 20, the most of any city. Dallas, Houston and Birmingham each placed two companies in the top tier.

Additional local firms finishing in the top 20 were Triad Electric & Controls Inc. (12), Excel Group (13), ISC Constructors (17) and Cajun Industries (18).

Other Baton Rouge companies recognized include Baker Construction Gulf Coast Industrial, which placed 41st; Group Contractors, 117th; and MAPP, 150th.

To qualify as a “Top Performer,” companies must achieve gold status or higher in ABC’s STEP Safety Management System. Most honorees also earn ABC’s Accredited Quality Contractor credential, which recognizes excellence in quality and safety performance, talent management, craft and management education, and community relations.
