A new natural gas pipeline anchored in Southwest Louisiana’s energy corridor has been placed in service.
Sempra Infrastructure, a subsidiary of energy company Sempra, has announced the completion of its Port Arthur Pipeline Louisiana Connector project.
The pipeline includes 72 miles of 42-inch pipeline and a compressor station in Beauregard Parish, along with associated above- and below-ground facilities. It interconnects with the company’s Gillis Hub Pipeline, a natural gas header system in the region, and links to Sempra Infrastructure’s LA Storage facility, currently under construction, to move gas to and from natural gas storage capacity along the Gulf Coast.
The project, which carried capital expenditures of less than $1 billion, will support the transportation of 2 billion cubic feet per day of U.S. natural gas to global markets by supplying Port Arthur LNG Phase 1. That facility, also under construction, will have a nameplate capacity of approximately 13 million tonnes per annum.
“This milestone is a key step in Sempra Infrastructure’s progress to advance critical energy infrastructure in the U.S. in order to help meet the world’s growing need for reliable, secure energy,” said Justin Bird, CEO of Sempra Infrastructure. He added that the project was delivered ahead of schedule and under budget, calling it “a testament to what our teams can achieve when we align around our shared mission of becoming North America’s leading energy infrastructure company.”
